Four weeks post top surgery

A quick update. Been to the surgeon yesterday and he is very happy with the grafts and my healing. I am still swollen and tender, but both are decreasing. Bruising is gone. I was told to do 10 minute massages per day on the scars and the nurse put on silicone strips. Always wanting to know why, I asked the doctor, why silicone?

He said they don’t really know and it has not quite been proven scientifically, but silicone seems to create the right environment for the body to heal itself, meaning the appropriate balance of moisture and maximum exposure to oxygen.

Hmm. As long as it works, I’m happy to contribute to the advancement of medicine and science.

Next appointment in three months time. Feeling great, especially when I put on my new burgundy leather jacket. Heeyah! Nope, not me in the featured image. I wish.

  4. Kris – this is so good to hear. keep doing the lymphatic massage too for the swelling. I gotta say, I wonder if your tenderness and swelling is due to not having any kind of compression post op. You might ask him about this – I know this is what I was told I needed to use the compression vest or ace bandage for. I wonder if it is too late to get the benefits even during the day when you are moving around? Just a thought. Regardless, I am glad everything is healing and the grafts have taken!!!! Yay!
